To provide a method which is practicable on an industrial scale, is featured by having an improved space-time yield, and enables the separation of an objective product from a reaction mixture by the use of a higher homologue of an aminoalcohol.
In the method for producing a heterocyclic compound of formula (I) by a catalytic reaction of an aromatic dinitrile of formula (II) with an aminoalcohol of formula (III) [wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 have meanings as described in the specification], the method includes feeding the aminoalcohol of formula (III) and a catalyst, metering and feeding the aromatic dinitrile of formula (II) at a reaction temperature, (in this case an additional solvent can be saved during the reaction), successively perfectly or substantially perfectly displacing an excess aminoalcohol after the reaction with a nonpolar solvent to obtain a crude product having a content of an aminoalcohol of at most 20 mass% based on the amount of the heterocyclic compound of formula (I).
