PURPOSE: To profitably obtain the subject derivative useful as a raw material for producing antitumor substances by culturing a microorganism having an ability to glycosylate a specific indolopyrrolocarbazole derivative in the presence of the compound and subsequently recovering the product from the cultured product.
CONSTITUTION: A microoganism [e.g. Microtestraspora SP A34549 (FERM 13292)] having an ability to glycosylate an indolopyrrolocarbazole derivative of formula I (X1, X2 are H, halogen, amino, mono-lower alkylamino, hydroxy, lower alkoxy, carboxyl, lower alkyl, etc.; R is H, amino, formylamino, hydroxy, lower alkoxy, lower alkyl, etc.,) is cultured in the presence of the compound, and the product is collected from the cultured solution, thus providing the objective indolopyrrolocarbazole having an excellent antitumor activity and containing a glycosyl group introduced therein.
