Abstract:
To provide a method for producing an iron oxide catalyst that causes little deterioration of catalytic activity over time, suppresses decrease with time in conversion ratio of carboxylic acid and can maintain the selectivity and yield of aldehyde and/or alcohol to a high level for a long period of time when carboxylic acid is hydrogenated to produce the corresponding aldehyde and/or alcohol.SOLUTION: The method for producing an iron oxide catalyst is a production method thereof used for producing aldehyde and/or alcohol corresponding to the carboxylic acid resulting from the hydrogenation of carboxylic acid and comprises firing a mixture including gelatin and an iron compound capable of producing an iron oxide by firing in a mix proportion [the former/the latter (by weight ratio)] of 0.02 to 0.4 at a temperature of 650 to 800°C for 1 to 10 hours.SELECTED DRAWING: None
