To provide a method of producing magnesium alloy which is formed by finely dispersing compounds in a magnesium matrix and has high strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and low coefficient of friction.
The method of producing the magnesium alloy is characterized in that powdery material is subjected to mechanical alloying, then the resulting powdery material is sintered and solidified by an electric discharge plasma sintering method and a vacancy ratio is controlled to 0.5 vol%, wherein the powdery material is obtained by adding 3-20% in total of one or more among graphite powder, diamond powder, MgB2 powder, Mg2Si powder, MgMoO4 powder, Mg(OH)2 powder, MoS2 powder and WS2 powder, into raw material powder having the composition composed of pure magnesium powder, if necessary containing by wt.%, one or more of 0.5-10.0% aluminum, 0.10-0.50% manganese, 0.1-2.0% zinc, 0.5-5.0% silicon, 0.5-3.0% copper, 0.5-2.0% calcium, 0.5-3.5% rare metal and the balance substantially inevitable impurities.
