To provide a method for producing a norbornene compound with which the amount of discharged vaporized norbornene to be discharged to the outside of the reactional system is reduced and a malodor caused by the norbornene is suppressed in the method for producing the norbornene compound by the Diels-Alder reaction.

The method for producing the norbornene compound by the Diels-Alder reaction is provided. The vaporized norbornene to be discharged to the outside of the reactional system is treated by absorption, adsorption, combustion or a combination of the two or more thereof to reduce the amount of the discharged vaporized norbornene. The resultant vaporized norbornene is then discharged. The amount of the discharged vaporized norbornene is preferably reduced until the norbornene concentration in the air in a place at a distance of 5 m from a discharge port reaches ≤2×10-3 ppm. The vaporized norbornene is then discharged.
