Abstract:

To provide a method of producing an azo compound represented by formula (III) by stabilizing a diazonium salt.

This method of producing an azo compound comprises: subjecting an amino group of a diazole derivative having the amino group as a substituent to a diazotization reaction to convert the diazole derivative into a corresponding diazonium salt compound; and reacting the compound with a pyrazolone compound in the presence of an acid having pKa of 3 or less to obtain a compound represented by formula (III), where R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 individually represent a substituent.
