PURPOSE: To reduce the generation of skid marks by changing the mode in transferring billets by a moving skid and a fixed skid in a walking beam system heating furnace.
CONSTITUTION: The phase of an eccentric ring 4', for example, among other eccentric rings 4 for lifting a frame 1 up and down at a position where zigzag movement in the plan view is produced is differentiated from the phase of the other eccentric rings 4, and a rectangular movement is produced by turning the eccentric ring 4 at a specified angle. Consequently, the upper and the lower position of the billet 6 in the widthwise direction of the furnace and in the advancing direction are changed, and the billet is inclined in the vertical and the lengthwise direction. Then the rod of a cylinder device 5 is moved outwardly to transfer the billet 6 and the billet 6 is transferred while being inclined in the vertical and the lengthwise direction. During transfer, the billet 6 is slid to the lower part by the difference in the upper and the lower position. The motion is repeated, the billet 6 is meandered and transferred and the generation of the skid marks is prevented.
