Abstract:

To reject an unauthorized use when copyrighted software is copied to media having an information processing function and started from the copy media.

A method for rejecting pirated media has a decoding instruction step of decoding information specific to software, a master key decryption step of decrypting a "software ID encrypted by media key" recorded in a user-inaccessible area with a master key specific to hardware, a media key decryption step of decrypting the "software ID encrypted by media key" decrypted in the master key decryption step into a software ID with a media key embedded in advance in the software, a software ID determination step of determining whether the decrypted software ID matches a software ID embedded in advance in the software, and a stop step of stopping the operation of the software if the software IDs do not match in the software ID determination step.
