To provide a method and apparatus by which a viewer can quickly and efficiently search a position of video data desirably viewed and can utilize mark information (video mark) designated from a receiver to a program even when the receiver used by the viewer is changed.

When a viewer makes a designation of attaching a video mark to an optional position of a program distributed from a video mark apparatus to the receiver, the receiver transmits mark information including an identifier of the program, position information in the program, and a user identifier to the video mark apparatus to store the information therein. When the viewer transmits the user identifier to request a video mark list, the video mark apparatus transmits the video mark list to the receiver which displays the video mark list, and the viewer selects a video mark of a program desirably reproduced in the list. The video mark apparatus distributes the program designated by the selected video mark from a designated position to the receiver.
