To provide means for effectively separating micro-plastic sampled from ocean water or the like, and an organic matter derived from a natural material.SOLUTION: A method for separating a synthetic resin small piece from a mixture containing a synthetic resin small piece and an organic matter contained in a natural matter includes the steps of: (1) adding an alkali metal salt or an alkaline earth metal salt of a hypochlorous acid, a chlorous acid or a chloric acid, a hydroxide of alkali metal, and a surface active agent to an aqueous liquid containing the mixture, and heating the aqueous liquid; (2) solid-liquid separating the liquid after the treatment of the step (1); and (3) adding a phosphoric acid to a solid component solid-liquid separated in the step (2), and treating the solid component.SELECTED DRAWING: None
