Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel evaporative emission control system.SOLUTION: A system comprises: a fuel tank (1) including a vent for release of a fuel vapor stream; a passive purge canister bed (5) having a passive purge vapor inlet and an outlet and containing a material for absorbing and storing fuel vapor from the tank; an active purge canister bed (2) containing a material for absorbing and storing fuel vapor; a conduit for conducting fuel vapor from the fuel tank to the bed (5); and a fuel vapor conduit from the outlet of the bed (5) to an active purge canister. In the system, the fuel vapor stream is contacted with the bed (5), the bed (2) is contacted with convected purge air, the air is prevented from flowing through the bed (5), the bed (5) is contacted with fresh purge air drawn by the fuel tank through the passive purge vapor outlet without first contacting with the bed (2), and a vented fuel vapor stream is prevented from being vented to the atmosphere without contacting with the beds (5,2).
