Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer method for transferring data in a virtual memory data processing system and to provide the data processing system therefor.
SOLUTION: An address converted by using a Power PC external control instruction is transferred to a data shift engine arranged in the memory controller of the system and previously transferred parameter is transferred to a control register in the memory controller. Data is transferred at high speed between the system memory and an I/O device by using minimum processor overhead and bus band width. The system/method are useful for transferring much data between the memory and a device such as a graphic adapter or a multi-media device.
