To provide a method and a system for treating used ion exchange resin which enable easy separation treatment of the used ion exchange resin generated from nuclear facilities.
The used ion exchange resin treatment method decomposes the used ion exchange resin generated from the nuclear facilities, or treats waste liquid left after nuclides are eluted from the used ion exchange resin. The method includes: a halogen removal process for separating halogen contained in the waste liquid; an ammonia removal process for separating ammonia contained in the waste liquid after the halogen removal process; a transition metal removal process for separating transition metals contained in the waste liquid after the ammonia removal process; and an alkali metal removal process for separating alkali metals contained in the waste liquid after the transition metal removal process.
