Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain autonomous DMA operation for a data packet device by transferring data to at least one program control list to operate a data packet transfer device in the autonomous mode.
SOLUTION: While an automatic boot input 370 is in operation, an automatic boot mode is selected, a DMA channel 0 is in use to operate autonomously a PCI interface ASIC 20 such as fetch of an address of a first packet control list and access of a DMA master to an internal link register. The selected automatic boot mode and an external ROM are used to act the PCI interface ASIC 20 like a local processing unit so as to set up a register of all internal PCI interface ASIC 20 and to initialize other function on the PCI bus 24. Then a plurality of other PCLs are built up and linked. Various DMA channels execute the PCL to allow data transfer on an IEEE 1394 bus.
