Abstract:

To provide a method for treating zirconium waste using molten salt electrolysis capable of recovering more refined zirconium having a low contamination rate from zirconium waste.

The method for treating zirconium waste where a radioactive material and zirconium are separated using a molten salt electrolysis process includes: a first molten salt electrolysis stage where a channel box and/or a sheathed tube for used fuel is subjected to anodic dissolution, and zirconium is precipitated at a cathode; and a second molten salt electrolysis stage where zirconium precipitated in the first molten salt electrolysis stage is mounted on an anode, so as to perform anodic dissolution, and, again, zirconium is precipitated at the cathode.
