Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a unit for decoding a CBP code offering a simple configuration of the hardware in the case of decoding a component image signal in a 4:2:0, 4:2:2, or 4:4:4 format that is efficiently coded.
SOLUTION: The decoding unit is provided with an inverse VLC device 52 that uses a 1st inverse VLC table to apply inverse variable length coding to a CBP code of a luminance signal block and a 2nd inverse VLC table to apply inverse variable length coding to a CBP code of a color difference signal block so as to apply inverse variable length coding to the CBP code and provides an output of a conversion coefficient and with a CBP decoder 54 that expands the conversion coefficient. The luminance signal block and the color difference signal block use in common the inverse VLC tables for CBP coding even by any of 4:2:0, 4:2:2, or 4:4:4 format.
