PURPOSE: To enable the mechanization of only pulling in of foil yarn in carrying out the weaving according to a foil pulling method using a handloom.

CONSTITUTION: A slay 6 is retreated to shed warp yarns and a lifting and lowering device 10 is then operated to lift a spatula advancing and retreating device 20 arranged under the slay on the outside of the warp yarn group in a handloom. A spatula 26 is stopped in a position at a higher level than the lower yarn in the warp yarn shedding and then advanced. Foil yarn having one end held on the opposite to the warp yarn group with the tip engaging part of the spatula is hooked and retreated to lower the spatula advancing and retreating device. Thereby, weaving is carried out so as not to affect the reed beating. Since a load on a weaver can be reduced and operations other than the pulling in of the foil yarn can be performed by manual operations according to a conventional method, the touch feeling or the finishing conditions of the pattern in the woven fabric woven with the handloom can intactly be ensured.
