Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for working a cam journal enabling friction of the cam journal when a camshaft rotates to be reduced up to a request level without applying paper lap working to a surface of the cam journal.SOLUTION: A surface of a cam journal 2 in a camshaft 1 obtains an arithmetic average roughness Ra of 0.2 or less via a grinding step of grinding the surface with a grindstone. In a deburring step performed after the grinding step, the surface of the cam journal 2 is deburred using an abrasive grain-containing brush 4 and the surface is also polished with an abrasive grain. Through the deburring step, the surface of the cam journal 2 obtains a skewness Rsk of -1.25 or less, and a Kurtosis Rku of 5.5 or more. Surface roughness of the cam journal 2 is restrained small to a degree enabling friction to be reduced up to a request level when rotating the camshaft 1 through carrying out of the above-mentioned grinding step and deburring step.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
