To provide a microcapsule suitable for therapeutic or diagnostic use.
The microcapsule has a wall thickness of no more than 500 nm and bulk density of no more than 0.2 g/cm3, is aerodynamically light, is suitable for delivery to the lung or for diagnosis by ultrasonic waves, and is especially suitable for formulation with an inspirator. When the microcapsule includes a therapeutic agent, the microcapsule is quickly discharged and then uptaken in lung, absolutely contrastively to any controlled release formulation, thus avoiding drug inclusion. Furthermore, if the microcapsule includes only a wall-forming substance and does not include the therapeutic agent, the microcapsule is especially suitable for ultrasonic wave imaging. The relatively thin wall of the microcapsule exhibits echogenicity improved in appearance.
