PURPOSE: To obtain a composition for treating bacterial infectious diseases capable of synergistically enhancing antimicrobial action and capturing even resistant strains within a clinical dose range, by incorporating an antibiotic latamoxef with a β-lactam based antibiotic.
CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating bacterial infectious diseases, obtained by incorporating latamoxef such as a compound of the formula with a β-lactam based antibiotic, e.g. benzylpenicillin, cefalotin or cephaloridine, and capable of synergistically enhancing the antimicrobial activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and exhibiting improved antimicrobial activity against pathogenic germs resistant to penicillin and cephem based antibiotics. The higher the individual minimum growth inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the strain, the more the synergistic effect. The composition is effective particularly for treating severe infectious diseases.
