This nucleic acid molecule comprises an obesity(OB) polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence represented by formulae I, II, etc., and capable of controlling body weight in animals or allele variant or analog containing its fragment and having body weight controlling activity, in which one or more amino acid residues are lost, replaced or inserted, or detectable labeled new nucleic molecule capable of hybridizing with isolated DNA molecule coding for immunogenic fragment of OB polypeptide and hybridizes with a body weight modulator gene enabling control of fat accumulation and fat content and is useful for diagnosis and treatment of obesity, etc.
