An inventive motor device 10 for driving a lens 2 prepared in a camera 1 comprises: a stepping motor 3 having a rotor and a stator magnetized to give a torque to the rotor; a driver 4 for magnetizing the stator; control parts 5, 5a for controlling the driver 4; and a memory 7 for storing the position of the rotor with respect to the stator. When the camera 1 is set to a sleep state from a photographing standby state, the control parts 5, 5a makes the memory 7 store a first position which is the current position of the rotor with respect to the stator, and makes the rotor retreat to an initial phase position with respect to the stator.
