PURPOSE: To obtain a linear motor which is small, whose efficiency is high, whose response is excellent and which is suitable for driving the direct acting mechanism of various industrial machines.
CONSTITUTION: In a linear motor, a moving element 1 in which a plurality of permanent magnets are arranged and an armature 2 in which coils 21a to 21d are arranged are faced and supported so as to be capable of being slid. The linear motor is formed in such a way that the coils 21a to 21d in four pieces are arranged nearly at equal intervals so as to correspond to an electrical angle of 360°±60° and that the armature in which ends, on one side, of the respective coils are connected in common and in which ends on the other side are connected in respective phase units is provided.
