To provide multi-well microfiltration arrangements that can separately collect a filtrate from each well while avoiding cross-contamination due to aerosol formation and/or pendent drops.
A microfiltration apparatus for processing a plurality of fluid samples includes: a first plate having a plurality of columns; a second plate spaced apart from the first plate by a cavity, the second plate having (i) a plurality of collection wells so aligned with the columns as to receive a sample fluid from the discharge conduits, and (ii) a plurality of vents extending through the second plate so as to be adjacent to the collection wells; and a gas-permeable material disposed in the cavity between the first plate and the second plate, the matrix laterally surrounding the region between at least one discharge conduit and an aligned collection well.
