To provide a lean burn laser igniting engine capable of stably igniting and burning a lean mixture without increasing the energy density of a laser beam by controlling the pulse intervals of the laser beam of multiple pulses and the energy of the laser beam per pulse, manufacturable at low cost, and having high durability and excellent maintainability and an operating method for the engine in an absorption laser igniting system in which the laser beam is absorbed by a gas in the combustion chamber by directly radiating the laser beam to the gas.
In this laser igniting engine, the laser beam from a laser transmission device is transmitted to a laser beam condensing device, and the gas in the combustion chamber is ignited by a plasma generated by radiating a condensed laser beam from the laser beam condensing device into the combustion chamber. The laser transmission device comprises a laser beam transmission control means transmitting the laser beam of multiple pulses at pulse time intervals allowing normal ignition by laser in the combustion chamber.
