Title:
MULTIPLYING DEVICE, LINEAR ALGEBRA PROCESSOR, NEURO-MORPHOLOGIC PROCESSOR AND OPTICAL PROCESSOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3261194
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable efficient and parallel vector matrix computation by providing electro-optical emitters, opto-electrical transducers and controllable attenuators disposed between these emitter and the transducers.
CONSTITUTION: Parallel strips of light emitting diodes are formed on the rear surface of a semiconductor substrate 1 and the processor thereof has further a semiconductor substrate 2 on which light detecting devices 8 are formed in the form of the photodiode strips. Further, this processor has a ferroelectric liquid crystal layer 3 disposed between the light emitting diode strips 4 and the photodiode strips 8. This liquid crystal layer 3 acts as a space optical modulator is conceptually dividable to elements of rectangular gratings. The respective elements control the attenuation of the light emitted from the parts of the light emitting diode strips 4 toward the parts of the photodiode strip strips 8. The attenuation characteristics thereof are discretely adjustable and non- volatile.
