To deal with the limitations of the present heart transplantation methodologies existing in the therapy for heart diseases.
Muscle cells and methods for using the muscle cells are provided. In one embodiment, transplantable skeletal muscle cell compositions and the methods of use thereof are provided. In one embodiment, the muscle cells can be transplanted into subjects having disorders characterized by insufficient cardiac function, e.g. congestive heart failure, by administering the skeletal myoblasts to the subjects. The muscle cells can be autologous, allogeneic, or xenogeneic to the recipient. Furthermore, modification, masking or removal of antigens existing on the surface of the cells in the compositions to inhibit the lysis of the cells, when administering the compositions to the subjects are proposed.
