Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a composite material having satisfactory wear resistance and tensile strength as well as such characteristics as high strength, high elasticity and a high m.p. peculiar to a metal-based composite material consisting of Al as a matrix material and aluminum borate whiskers as a reinforcing material.

CONSTITUTION: Hybrid fibers obtd. by combining aluminum borate whiskers 3 with boron nitride 5 are compounded with Al or Al alloy to produce a hybrid fiber reinforced metal-based composite material or Al or Al alloy powder 11 is substd. for the above-mentioned Al or Al alloy to produce the objective hybrid fiber reinforced metal-based composite material.
