Abstract:
PURPOSE: To recover the steelmaking starting material low in impurity from an iron scrap by simple treating process.
CONSTITUTION: The iron scrap such as the spent beverage can made of iron is crushed in a prescribed size with a crusher 1. The crushed iron scrap lief is heated in a rotary kiln 8, and the combustible matters such as the resin and the coating sticking thereto are burnt. Then, the heated iron scrap lief is cooled and an oxidized film is formed on the surface. The iron scrap lief forming the oxidized film is struck with a rotary hammer 9, and the oxidized film is peeled off from the surface. Finally, the peeled oxidized film and the carbide formed by combustion of the combustible matters are separated and removed, and the steelmaking starting material low in impurity is recovered.
