Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for removing undesirable flavors, odors and colors from polysaccharides.

CONSTITUTION: This method for purifying polysaccharides comprises stages of (a) dispersing the polysaccharides at 1-40% solid concentration in an aqueous medium, (b) dissolving the dispersed polysaccharides, (c) feeding the dissolved polysaccharides into a steam-stripping apparatus, (d) feeding a steam flow to the dissolved polysaccharides, (e) removing the steam from the apparatus and (f) recovering the dissolved polysaccharides.
