Abstract:
PURPOSE:To increase a code error rate by performing control so that the OFF state of the light signal outputted from an electric field absorption type optical modulator is a complete extinction state. CONSTITUTION:The electric field absorption type optical modulator 1 varies in light transmissivity with an impressed driving voltage Vd, and performs ON/OFF control over the input light O1 from a light emitting means 3 according to the light transmissivity to output the light. A driving voltage control means 20 holds the peak value of the driving voltage Vd impressed to the electric field absorption type optical modulator 1 at a determined value and when the peak value of the driving voltage Vd is to a level at which the electric field absorption type optical modulator 1 completely cut off the input light O1, the light signal of OFF level can be outputted at all times by completely cutting off the light from the modulator 1, so the OFF level becomes the level of no light emission. Consequently, when the OFF level is detected on a reception side, the level is never misdetected as an ON level.
