PURPOSE: To provide a multigradation display device by which the balance of gradation can be observed uniformly with the human eyes considering the optical characteristic of gradation display.
CONSTITUTION: A matrix display device provided with a pixel part arranged on a matrix, display data provided with gradation display information, and a data conversion part which converts the display data to a voltage to be applied to the pixel part is equipped with a liquid crystal driving signal generating means 7 which converts color display data 1-3 to liquid crystal display data 8, an eight-level data driver 14 which selects and outputs one level from the voltages of eight levels, and an eight-level liquid crystal application voltage generating means 12 which generates an eight-level liquid crystal application voltage 13 to set color difference between neighboring gradation nearly equal. Therefore, it is possible to realize, multigradation display by which the balance of gradation can be observed uniformly with the human eyes by setting the color difference between the neighboring gradation nearly equal.
