Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a polyether polyester having excellent mechanical strengths by reacting a polyalkylene oxide with a polybasic acid anhydride in the presence of at least one neutralizing agent selected from among metal compounds, simple metals, ammonia and amines.
SOLUTION: One mol of a low-molecular-weight polyalkylene oxide (e.g. polyethylene glycol), about 0.1-4.0mol of a polybasic acid anhydride (e.g. pyromellitic dianhydride) and about 0.001-10.0mol, per mol of the anhydride, of at least one neutralizing agent selected from among metal compounds, simple metals, ammonia and amines (e.g. Cu, CaCO3 or triethylamine) are fed into, e.g. a kneader for high viscosity use. Next, the mixture is kneaded and reacted by heating to about 70-300°C, especially about 90-180°C to form a high-molecular- weight polyether polyester having a number-average molecular weight of about 50,000-1,000,000. This polyester is extruded to obtain a film having a tensile strength of about 30kgf/cm2 or above, an elongation of about 200% or above, and a thickness of about 10-300μm.
