PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a need for bending and a secondary reinforcing material and to improve sealing ability by a method wherein a knitting yarn consists of composite structure comprising an expansion graphite tape being a single layer and formed in a sheet-form manner on a whole and having a specified thickness and width increased specified times as long as the thickness; and a reinforcing material formed of knitted or braided substance.
SOLUTION: A using expansion graphite tape 1 is a single layer and formed in a sheet-form manner on a whole and the thickness (a) thereof is set to 0.38mm or more, and width (b) is also set in a range of 3-25 times as large as the thickness. This constitution provides a strength to prevent the occurrence of breakage during braiding and prevents a sectional area from being increased not more than necessary to a knitting yarn (prevents the increase of the size of a yarn). The whole of the outer periphery of the surface of the tape 1 is covered with a reinforcing material 2, such as a fine metallic wire, a metal netting, metallic fibers, and yarns and fibers, through braiding or knitting to form a knitting yarn 3 for packing. The knitting yarns 3 are braided to produce a string-form packing or formed in an annular state for molding.
