Abstract:

PURPOSE: To apply spherical surface polishing work with high accuracy and high quality to the end face of an optical connector ferrule and to improve grinding workability by automating a small sized and light weight grinding device.

CONSTITUTION: An end face grinding device for the optical connector ferrule 19 is comprised of a cabinet 3 also used as a hand grip part incorporating a motor 1, a motor gear reduction 12 and a power source, a grinding plate 2 fitted to a motor driving shaft and on the upper plane of which a soft elastic material is adhered, an optical connector holding plate 16 which holds the optical connector ferrule 19 and presses or approaches closely it to the grinding plate 2, and a sliding part driven by the motor 1 and which allows the optical connector holding plate 16 to move relatively with the grinding plate 2.
