PURPOSE: To machine a work into a desired free-form surface based on tool route data by originating tool route data needed in order that a rotating work is machined in a desired free-form by a cylinder tool based on shape data of a free-form surface body.
CONSTITUTION: From shape data stored at a memory means 1 and the size of a cylinder tool 10, tool route data is produced by a computer 2 and stored at a memory means 4. The tool route data is fed from the memory means 4 through an interface 3 to a servo controller 5. The servo controller 5 is caused to control servo motors 6, 7, 8 and by moving the cylinder tool 10 according to indication made based on the tool route data, the work 11 is cut or ground into a free-form surface body by the cylinder tool 10.
