PURPOSE: To provide the device for digesting and concentrating sludge with the setting area reduced and capable of reducing the volume of the digested sludge and stably concentrating the sludge.
CONSTITUTION: A column 1 having an appropriate depth is provided as a reaction vessel, a bed zone 2 is formed on the bottom side of the column, a blanket zone 3 is formed above the bed zone, and a picket fence 5 acting as an agitator and having a length extending over the blanket zone and bed zone is furnished in the column. A sludge feed pipe 8 is provided and communicated with the blanket zone, and a sludge circulating pipe 10 is furnished to communicate the lower and upper parts of the blanket zone. A circulating pump is provided at the middle of the sludge circulating pipe, a sludge extracting pipe 12 is connected to the column bottom, and a supernatant liq. discharge pipe is furnished at the upper part of the column in succession to the blanket zone.
