PURPOSE: To precisely measure respective valve timings of a plurality of valves in a multi-valve engine.
CONSTITUTION: The compressed air from an air source is supplied to a port 3 formed on a cylinder head 1 through a feed head 10. A crank shaft is rotated to open and close a pair of valves 41, 42 continued to the port 3, and a pressure change in the port 3 is detected. The feed passage area can be variably switched by a variable throttle means 15 provided on the feed head 10. When the area is reduced, the port internal pressure is greatly reduced at the time when the former valve in opening order is opened, and the valve timing of the former valve is measured from this pressure change. When the area is extended, the port internal pressure is greatly reduced at the time when the latter valve in opening order is opened, and the valve timing of the latter valve is measured from this pressure change.
