Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a new information storage element capable of storing, reading and erasing information based on light by providing the element with a photoelectric conversion layer, a storage holding layer and a pair of electrodes either one of which has light transmissivity. CONSTITUTION:The information storage element 30 and 40 is irradiated and swept with optical beams SL modulated at their intensity in accordance with the contents of information from the side of a transparent base 10. Inputted optical information is converted into electron accumulation state and stored in the storage holding layer 40. When a current detecting element is connected between a metal electrode 21 and an electrode 50 and the information storage element is irradiated and swept with reading optical beams LA from the base 10 side, the movement of electrostatic charge is generated in the photoelectric conversion layer and detected by a current detecting element as current change. In order to erase the contents of the optical information, a voltage inverting the metal electrode 21 side against that of input is applied between the electrodes 21 and 50 and uniform light beams are radiated to the information storage element from the base side. Consequently, the new information storage element characterized by extremely simple structure, low cost and compact size can be obtained.
