To obtain a new 2-(N-cyanoimino)thiazolidin-4-one derivative capable of decreasing both blood triglycerides and cholesterols and useful e.g. as a therapeutic agent for hyperlipidemia.
This compound is expressed by formula I [A ring is a (substituted)benzene ring, condensed ring or heterocycle; R1 is a (substituted) 1-4C alkylene, alkenylene, R6-X (R6 is a 1-4C alkylene or alkenylene; X is O or S) or the like; R2 and R3 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, R8O (R8 is H, a 1-4C alkyl or the like) or halogen; R4 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; the substitution positions of methylene at the 5-site of the thiazolidine are both E and Z], e.g. 2-(N- cyanoimino)-5-{(E)-4-styrylbenzilidene}thiazolidin-4-one. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting 2-(N-cyanoimino)thiazolidin-4-one (a salt thereof) with an aldehyde or a ketone expressed by formula III.
