To obtain the subject new compound having excellent solubility in various solvents and useful as a polymerization initiator, etc., to easily and efficiently give a block polymer without necessitating rigorous control of the polymerization process by reacting an azoamide compound with an azodicarboxylic acid compound.
This new azoamide compound is expressed by the formula I R1 to R4 are each an alkyl; X is an alkyene; Y is O or NH, (n) is an integer of ≥2; n X and Y groups may be the same or different). It has excellent solubility in various solvents and is usable as a polymerization initiator to easily and efficiently give a block polymer without necessitating rigorous control of the polymerization process. The azoamide compound can be produced by reacting an azodicarboxylic acid diester of the formula II (R9 is a lower alkyl) with an amino alcohol of the formula III or an amidine compound.
