To obtain the subject new derivative useful as a treating agent for hypertension, heart failure, nephritis, etc., an intraocular pressure lowing drug, etc., by reacting a specific carboxymethylidenecycloheptoimidazole derivative with a di(thio)oxolene-2-one compound.
This new carboxymethylidenecycloheptoimidazole derivative expressed by formula I (R1 is a lower alkyl; R' is H or a lower alkyl; X is O or S) has angiotensin II receptor antagonism and is useful as a treating agent for hypertension, congestive heart failure, diabetic nephropathy or glomerular nephritis, an intraocular pressure lowing drug, etc. This compound is obtained by reacting a carboxymethylidenecycloheptoimidazole derivative expressed by formula II (Try is trityl) with 4-bromomethyl-5-alkyl-1,3-di(thio)oxolene-2-one expressed by formula III.
