To obtain the subject new compound separated from a cultured product of a specific microorganism belonging to the genus Zopfiella, having excellent sphingosine kinase inhibiting action and useful as an antiarteriosclerotic agent, carcinostatic agent, antiallergic agent, etc.
This compound is 7-octanoyloxy-3-heptyl-7-methyl-6,8-dioxo-2- oxa-2,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalene of the formula. The compound can be produced by culturing Zopfiella inermis Cailleux Malloch et Cain SANK 15183 strain belonging to the genus Zopfiella by liquid cultivation, especially submerged cultivation at 1.8-24°C under aerobic condition, extracting the bacterial cell in the cultured liquid or the supernatant and purifying the extract. The compound is preferably administered at a daily dose of 10-1,000 mg for adult in the form of oral drug, injection, etc.
