Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new diamidamine useful as a surfactant with excellent flexibilizing ability and more excellent biodegradability, and highly useful as a flexibilizer for esp. cloths, the hair, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are each 1-4C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, or combined into CR2 or NR (R is H or 1-4C alkyl), or forming a ring via O; R3 is 2-6C alkylene or alkenylene; R4 is 7-35C straight chain or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl; m and n are each 1-5], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of the formula I can be obtained by the following process: a compound of formula III is cyanoethylated with acrylonitrile followed by catalytic hydrogenation to effect aminopropylation, and, if needed, both the above reactions are repeated at least once, to produce an amine of formula IV, which is, in turn, acylated by a fatty acid or its ester of formula V (R5 is H or 1-3C alkyl).
