Abstract:
To provide a new fermentation product useful as a geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) synthase inhibitor and an antitumor agent.
This new fermentation product, 4-(2, 3-dihydroxy-5-methylphenoxy)-2-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoic acid is collected from a cultured material obtained by culturing microorganisms belonging to the genus Beauveria. Since the compound has a GGPP synthase inhibitory effect, it is useful as the GGPP synthase inhibitor or for the prevention and treatment of morbid states or diseases associated with GGPP or its geranygeranylation. Especially, since the compound is confirmed to have a cell proliferation inhibitory activity and infiltration inhibitory activity in various cancer cells, it is useful as the anticancer agent.
