Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for surfactants, agri chemicals, medicines, etc., and a flame retardant additive for halon-based fire extinguishers, transformer oils or electrical insulating oils, X-ray contrast media, etc.

CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [Rf1 and Rf2 are 1-5C perfluoroalkyl an both may be bound directly or through O or N to form a heterocyclic ring). This compound is obtained by decarboxylating a nitrogen-containing perfluorocarboxylic acid bromide of formula II at -80 to +100°C as necessary, in a solvent (e.g. perfluorohexane) while being irradiated with ultraviolet rays having 250-370nm wavelength by using a light source such as a mercury arc lamp. The compound of formula II is readily available and capable of providing the compound of formula I in good yield and high purity according to simple operation.
