PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound shown by a specific formula, capable of providing a polyolefin having a narrow molecular weight and a narrow composition distribution and a high molecular weight, useful as a catalyst for polymerizing an olefin.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is shown by formula I [M is a transition metal of the group IVb, Vb or VIb of the periodic table; R1 to R10 are each H, a halogen, a 1-20C (halogenated) hydrocarbon, etc.; X1 and X2 are each H, a halogen, a 1-20C (halogenated) hydrocarbon, an O-containing group or an S- containing group; Q is O, S, NR11 or PR12 (R11 and R12 are each H or a 1-20C hydrocarbon)] such as 0-(4-indenyl)-phenoxyzirconium dichloride, etc. The compound, for example, is obtained by using both a compound of formula II and a compound of formula III as raw material compounds. The compound of formula I is combined with a compound to form an ion pair by reaction with the compound of formula I and/or an organoaluminum oxy compound and is preferably used as a catalytic component.
