Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonlinear video editing system capable of executing the user operation usefully in the case of moving an editing point being the border of cut scenes.
SOLUTION: This system has 1st, 2nd and 3rd reproduction modes that are selected by the user at reproduction of a video image for editing purpose. In the 1st reproduction mode (PREVTRIM), a 1st cut scene is reproduced before an editing point based on a play list and a 2nd cut scene is reproduced after the edit point based on a play list. In the 2nd reproduction mode (EPTRIM), the 1st cut scene is reproduced continuously before and after the edit point. In the 3rd reproduction mode (NEXTTRIM), the 2nd cut scene is reproduced continuously before and after the edit point. In these reproduction modes, data are reproduced at a variable speed in an optional direction by means of a dial and any of the reproduction modes is selected in one operation by three corresponding keys while making a current position.
