PURPOSE: To obtain an alkyl-etherified amino resin improved in curability, flexibility, storage stability, hardness, water resistance, and boiling resistance by subjecting a specific compd. to methylolation and then to alkyl-etherification.

CONSTITUTION: 2-(4,6-Diamino-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)benzoic acid of formula I is methylolated with formaldehyde and then alkyl-etherified with a 1-6C alcohol, giving an alkyl-etherified amino resin having a wt.-average mol.wt. (by gel permeation chromatography) of 350-50,000 and repeating units of formula II [X is -CH2- or -CH2OCH2-; and R1, R2, and R3 are each H or -CH2OR4 (R4 is lower alkyl) provided R2 and R3 may combine with each other to form a ring].
