NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H or OH). Appearance; Yellow powder for DCP-1 in which R is H and reddish brown powder for DCP-2 in which R is OH. Melting point; 144W147°C for DCP-1 and 249W253°C for DCP-2.
USE: A carcinostatic agent.
PREPARATION: A strain Streptomyces sp. D788, RPM-5 (FERM-P No.7703) which is a microorganism capable of producing an antibiotic substance anthracycline D788-6W10 is initially subjected to variation treatment with N- methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine to give a strain OXA-4 (FERM-P No.8708) without or poorly producing a dyestuff. The above-mentioned strain is then cultivated, normally at 25W32°C for 48W96hr, preferably by an aerobic liquid culture method, e.g. spinner culture method, etc., and anthracyclinone expressed by formula II is added to the resultant culture fluid to further carry out cultivation. Thereby the compound expressed by formula II is converted into the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
